In Chapter 6, the Buddha bestows predictions of future Buddhahood (授记) upon major disciples, beginning with Mahākāśyapa, followed by Subhūti, Mahākātyāyana, and Mahāmaudgalyāyana. He declares that each of them will, in a future age, become a Buddha with a specific name, land, lifespan, and retinue. The Buddha further explains that these disciples have long practiced under innumerable Buddhas in past lives and have now completed the causes necessary for full awakening. This chapter marks a decisive shift: those formerly regarded as disciples of the “lesser vehicle” are now explicitly affirmed as future Buddhas.
